Nikola Mirotic Traded to New Orleans
The rumored trade between the Chicago Bulls & New Orleans Pelicans went thru today.
According to reports, the Bulls will deal Nikola Mirotic and a future second round pick to the Pelicans in exchange for Omer Asik, Jameer Nelson*, Tony Allen & a 2018 first-rounder:
Chicago will waive Tony Allen upon completion of the trade, as well as backup swingman Quicny Pondexter, to make way for the new additions.
Though on the hook for at least two more years w/ Asik's contract, CHI was able to pick up a valuable pick in a very deep, upcoming draft.
It's a win-win for both teams, as NO receives a stretch big to pair w/ Anthony Davis (and DeMarcus Cousins when he returns next year) and alleviate some of the scoring load up front. Mirotic was desperate for a fresh start after the unfortunate incident w/ Bobby Portis - kudos to him for playing well enough to generate interest & build his stock.
CHI, 18-33, is 13th in the East.
NOP, 27-23, is 7th in the West.
*Bulls plan to keep him...for now
