Nets Clear Cap Space, Hawks Improve Positioning in Pre-Draft Day Trade
Earlier this week, both Brooklyn & Atlanta completed the first trade of the 2019 offseason - a move that looks like a win on both sides:
ATL gets:
G/F Allen Crabbe
2019 1st-rounder (#17)
2020 1st-rounder (lottery protected)
BKN gets:
F Taurean Prince
2021 second-rounder
It’s rare two teams with varied goals can reach such a fair agreement.
On the ATL side, the Hawks now own 3! Top 20 picks in this year’s draft*, giving them ideal flexibility to build as they see fit. Also, the 2020 (1st-round) pick received from Brooklyn is almost certain to convey since the Nets (more than) likely return to the playoffs next season.
And if Allen Crabbe can get back on track in 2020, that’s a(nother) win.

On the Brooklyn side, they were able to free up A. Crabbe’s large contract + acquire Taurean Prince, who will help shore up a position of need (SF/PF depth). Most importantly, BKN now has two max slots to offer free agents in a few weeks.
*also own 3 second-rounders: #35, #41 & #44
