Wins and losses will not define Chicago's season. In fact, higher-ups like John Paxson won't hesitate to tell you it's all about internal growth & development of young talent.
Lauri Markkanen is the perfect symbol of that. Not only is he the Bulls' top prospect, Markkanen is a prototypical fit for today's game (emphasis on pace & space), and figures to be a key figure to build around moving forward.
There's some positives (from Lauri) from Chicago's Opening Night defeat in TOR.
Monitoring Markkanen
Opening Night @ TOR
• 17 points (5/12 shooting, 2 triples), 8 boards, 33 min.
Markkanen was impressive in his debut after being thrown right into the fire. He got plenty of looks in the flow of CHI's offense, a recipient of many basic shots after screening & dribble penetration.
Stretching the floor is Lauri's current calling card but as the year goes along, Coach Hoiberg should implement a few more ways for his rook to faceup & create offense in the elbow area.
With Chicago's current injury (and roster) troubles, don't be surprised to see similar performances in the near future. It's early but Markkanen is already one of CHI's go-to weapons offensively, doesn't need too much volume to get going.
