SUBJECT: K. DUNN
Tracking: 11/28-12-1 • v. PHX, @ DEN, v. SAC
Chicago's Kris Dunn is an interesting player to track - promoted to a starter on Nov. 19, Dunn is looking to place a strangehold on the position & cement himself as a building block. Already a strong perimeter defender, he's looking to improve offensive command, outside shooting & overall aggressiveness as lead guard.
GAME 1 OF 3
11/28 V. PHX • L, 104-99
career-high 24 pts (63% shooting, hit 4/5 triples!, 8 dimes, 5 boards, 4 steals, 5 TOs
Kris Dunn played one of the most complete games of his young career a couple nights ago - though it was accompanied by a loss, CHI's 6th straight, Dunn put a strong emphasis on downhill scoring, staying in attack mode all night long.
It led to a couple easy scores over T. Ulis to start the game + featured a career-best 4 triples from deep. Dunn made a point to get his teammates involved early - he made simple, yet very effective reads off screens - Robin Lopez & Justin Holiday benefited from Dunn's aggressiveness (scored or assisted on CHI's 1st 15 pts).
Learning how/where to attack spots is a work in progress but Dunn's work in the elbow zones has been encouraging. He has a solid step back, midranger on the left elbow + is looking to score if afforded a step by his man.
It wasn't a super complete outing, however, as Dunn committed a couple crucial TOs down the stretch. Valuing possessions & limiting remains key throughout the course of this season.
QUICK NOTES
• Recognized mismatches & exploited them - went right at T. Ulis at outset of game, drove by D. Bender for a crossover, driving finish after switch on perimeter
• Starting to find R. Lopez more often for short hooks in the paint & kick backs for midrange Js - mastering quick pocket passes gives CHI basic opps. to score
• Spent time alongside Je. Grant & A. Blakeney in 3-guard set - is Coach Hoiberg looking for more ways to keep Dunn on the court?
