Gary Payton II aka Young Glove took the long, winding road to becoming one of the league’s top perimeter defenders - broke through w/ the Dubs in 2021 as a consistent lockdown threat; extremely cerebral when checking different players: holds ground v. bigger players, picks up nearly full court & harasses guards from the point of attack (great shot-blocker, can pickpocket the most skilled ball-handlers); incredibly athletic, lefty utility guard w/ video game hops - GPII gets off the floor quick, loves nothing more than dropping huge, one-handed slams on top of the opposition; very good transition finisher, fills the lane + flushes home high lobs w/ ease; moves the ball well, doesn’t let it stick to his hands in the flow of games - instinctively makes the extra pass; steadily improving shooter from deep - likes setting up in the corner, cuts well, can find a bucket if the 3 isn't there; extremely hard worker, worked feverishly to perfect strengths while also developing all other aspects of his game; back w/ Golden State!
