JAE’SEAN TATE (HOU)
UNDERDOG
NBA ROLE: VERSATILE, DEFENSIVE-MINDED FORWARD
Jae’Sean Tate: a true, 6’4 (lefty) power forward w/ a multi-dimensional game; excellent find by Rockets: Tate went undrafted outta Ohio State in 2018, found success w/ Sydney Kings before getting his NBA opportunity; versatile athlete who can check a varying degree of players - high energy: one night, Tate’s guarding 1s & 2s, the next he’s tasked to stop 3-5 (quickness, IQ & anticipation allows for such flexibility); does an excellent job sliding while keeping his hands extended (without committing fouls); stays around the basket, looking to score, moves well without the rock; great rebounder, pushes the ball after gaining control - Tate’s activity helps pace: secures/ends plays defensively; needs to further improve ball-handling ability + playmaking on the run; improving outside shooter, is getting plenty of reps to gain confidence; re-signed w/ Rockets (2022), good role player - while his minutes are down, Tate makes a difference as a defender, rebounder & tempo-pusher in the lineup
