MALIK MONK (SAC)
STAR UNDERDOG
NBA ROLE: EXPLOSIVE, SCORING COMBO GUARD
A great athlete in the backcourt, Malik Monk is a streaky scorer who can detonate on any given night; hard to corral off the dribble (needs just a bounce or two before rising for Js or finishing over the top if given an open lane), improving ball-handler; great lob option, uncanny for an “undersized” guard; very accurate from deep, must capitalize on spot ups to maximize playing opportunities; not a natural creator for others (Monk can certainly get his), needs to perfect basic PnR reads, be selective from the field & look for the open man after penetrating; no slouch on D but lacks ideal strength & size; toughness isn't an issue, though Monk must work on a niche (ball pressure, sequence D: steals/blocks leading to scores); excellent chemistry w/ college teammate De’Aaron Fox; great 6th Man (one of the NBA’s best), go-to option for Coach Mike Brown: Monk’s scoring outbursts makes Sacramento that much more difficult to gameplan against
