SUBJECT: Z. LAVINE
TRACKING: 3/2-3/11 • V. DAL, V. BOS, V. MEM, @ DET, @ ATL
The remainder of Zach LaVine's season is very, very important - both for himself & the Chicago Bulls.
The centerpiece of Chicago's Jimmy Butler trade, LaVine is a restricted free agent this summer, eligible for a hefty, long-term contract extension. Though just 22, he's shown very promising signs as a go-to player offensively - but does he possess the well-rounded attack to lead a franchise out of lottery contention and eventually (back) to the postseason?
It won't solely fall on his shoulders but that's soon to be expected as Chicago continues to build assets either in the draft or via free agency. As a cornerstone, can LaVine continue to improve on an upward track, while helping maximize the abilities of his teammates? That's the goal.
LaVine is a naturally gifted offensive talent but needs to improve efficiency & setting up easy scores for others.
This extended, 5-game tracking period will take note of LaVine's willingness to share the rock, his ability to knock down triples + convert inside the arc & defensive success v. his counterparts on the wing.
Team success isn't much of a factor during this observation - if LaVine shows progress & stays consistent, Chicago will receive a clearer picture of what's to hold in the future.
