The last remaining unbeaten team (Milwaukee Bucks) finally took its first L. After a very impressive 9-0 start, the Atlanta Hawks took MIL’s “O” with a 117-98 victory at home…without Trae Young in the lineup.
All-Star Dejounte Murray was up to his usual tricks - poured in a huge, all-around performance: 25 points, 11 dimes, 8 boards & 3 steals! Murray’s been an excellent fit in ATL so far, helping to galvanize a 7-3 record.
The other huge storyline, however, was rookie AJ Griffin, who got off to the tune of 24! pts (early career-high), along with 4 boards & 3 steals. With a nice minutes boost (in wake of Young being out of the lineup), Griffin’s aggression (15 shot attempts) & accuracy (10 makes) was notable - has the rook earned a primary spot in the rotation moving forward?
All isn't lost for Milwaukee (obviously). In fact, they were probably due for a subpar night after starting the year red hot. Either way, there’s a good chance both of these teams match up with much higher stakes in 2023.
