JALEN SMITH (CHI)
UNDERDOG
NBA ROLE: ALL-AROUND, HYBRID BIG
Drafted 10th overall outta Maryland (in 2020), Jalen Smith provides two-way services in the Association; plays big: likes to post up, has a couple (raw) go-to moves down low; most immediate NBA skill = shot-blocking - Smith has good defensive instincts, needs to focus on playing extended minutes without succumbing to foul trouble; very strong on the offensive glass - always hustles, frequent candidate for putback flushes; very solid after screening: Smith can slide back for a 3 or charge the lane w/ a gliding finish; good shooter (very fluid shot motion) w/ great range from outside - shouldn’t be left alone; needs to work on foul shot & finding the open man after drawing defenders; should eat v. smaller defenders as his offensive game further improves; signed w/ Bulls (2024): still has a lot of untapped upside: Smith’s game could blossom in the Chi
