A former 4-star HS prospect, Derrick Jones Jr. is a FREAK athlete; found a niche as a versatile defender (help side shot-blocker) and transition scorer; uses supreme athleticism to his advantage: DJJ soars (over the top) for flying oops*, boards and flushes – DJJ’s at his best when filling the break w/ a head of steam going to the cup or diving to the rim for a finish; good slasher, has a sort of consistent efficiency to his game, doesn’t force the issue much; worked his way to becoming a decent outside shooter, currently most comfortable from the corner; needs to add more counters off the dribble if looks aren't readily available; slight build but makes a huge imprint at the 4/5 – DJJ’s able to defend different matchups, can finish off possessions; signed w/ Mavs (2023) – valued leg of Coach Jason Kidd’s starting group: DJJ’s energy & effort creates positive momentum
