Mahcus Smaht: a throwback, ‘power guard’ who really gets under opponents’ skin defensively; straight up menace: strong, athletic & tough (built like a football player): adjusts to almost any matchup and does a (more than) decent job of containing them; offensive profile: very capable playmaker (moves the ball well, keeps it hopping, has mastered seams to find open shooters & bigs), can also score with short jumpers in the lane; decent finisher around the rack, needs to continue developing post-up game & getting to the line; modest three-point shooter (loves angled pulls), though shoots at a high volume; barrels out of control & flops a tad too much; 2022 Defensive Player of the Year – Smart’s locked down his place as a top defender in the league, stars in his role as a terrific disruptor + do it all role player; new start in Memphis (2023) – strong reputation is already cemented, can Smart help lead the Grizz to uncharted territory?
