JAKOB POELTL (TOR)
STAR UNDERDOG
NBA ROLE: TWO-WAY CENTER
7-foot center Jakob Poeltl is a defensive-oriented big at the 5; designated Watch DOG, grew into his premier role as a lead rim protector; has gotten a lot more comfortable on offense over the years, Poeltl gets buckets by flashing down the lane with short Js, midrange shots, and staying active in the paint; plays very well off guards (keeps hands up, frequent recipient of quick dump offs in the lane); below average wingspan; must learn to exploit mismatches more effectively; generating offense after screening, better finishing around the basket + hitting a consistent 15-18 footer is Poeltl’s primary priorities; dealt back to Toronto (2023), where his career began - underrated starting big, Poeltl’s one of the game’s most unassuming bigs
