DENI AVDIJA (WAS)
STAR UNDERDOG
NBA ROLE: VERSATILE, PLAYMAKING FORWARD
Israel’s Deni Avdija does a little bit of everything on the court; high basketball IQ, international experience gives Avdija an edge in terms of how to execute on both ends; nice outside shooter, loves corner treys (money from either side) - releases quick w/ a “catch point” that suggests easy, accurate volume; good defensive background - uses size & smarts to create stops, has earned minutes as stopper/disrupter v. multiple positions; moves well without the ball, always a threat to score diving from the corner; great passing forward, operates a PnR with nice effectiveness (is a threat himself from deep, can see over defenders, has an innate sense of which read to make); void of many glaring weaknesses, though Avdija needs to continue adding go-to moves off the dribble; not yet a full-time play initiator but is learning secondary responsibilities as key member of Wes Unseld Jr.’s group; important for Washington’s rebuild - Deni’s multi-faceted game gives visions of very strong play down the line
