Bennedict Mathurin is up next: pure, NBA athlete (from Day 1) w/ all the confidence in the world as a scorer; effective, semi-reserved approach: Mathurin loves rocker steps, has the ability to pull up & rise over defenders for comfortable looks in & outside of the arc (deliberate load up but can get players off balance w/ various hesitations before going up); great volume + accuracy on treys - shots sort of a set shot when left unattended but adjusts well when met by a closing defender; goes strong driving to the rim: Mathurin has great hangtime on finishes, likes to take contact but stays disciplined enough to finish around/thru the last line of defense w/ a soft touch'; excellent pacing, especially for a young scorer: Mathurin rarely rushes the action, uses timing to find seams + does a nice job of mixing it up from all three levels; not quite there as a defender (yet) but has some positive tendencies: Mathurin likes to jump passing lanes, can use his physicality to bump off his man & make them work for buckets; needs to continue developing passing off the dribble and tighten up shot selection, though both areas are vastly improving w/ more game time; fearless on both sides of the ball, will (eventually) help spearhead a winning culture in Indiana; incredible backcourt potential next to Tyrese Haliburton; star upside w/ the Pacers - Mathurin’s already one of Indiana’s top players/go-to threats
